TANGO

Buenos Aires mainstream culture manifest itself through the lyrics of the Tango. Many of the
words in the music come from colloquial slang. The musical instrument –bandoneón- provides the melancholic and somewhat sullen sound that characterizes tango today.
The tango shows (tanguerías) offer variety of musical interpretations with professional dancers and sophisticated choreographies.

PUERTO MADERO

The antique port of Buenos Aires has been renewed and represents the latest architectural tendency of the city. The old depositories used in the past for storing cargo are now stylish residential and office buildings with modern amenities.

LA BOMBONERA – Boca Juniors Stadium

This mythical stadium rises on Brandsen street when it intersects Del Valle Iberlucea street. It is one of the most popular soccer clubs in the world.
Founded in 1940, it was then popularly called “La Bombonera” (the candy jar). At the entrance hall,
people can see and enjoy soccer-related murals painted by Benito Quinquela Martín and Pérez Celis.

RIVER PLATE STADIUM

Inaugurated in 1938, this stadium is popularly known as "El Monumental" (The Monument), as it was one of the first big stadiums built in South America to host over 70,000 spectators. El Monumental is the official stadium of the Argentine World Cup Soccer Team.
It is also the venue for the main test-matches played by Los Pumas Rugby Team and historical concerts such as The Rolling Stones, U2, Madonna, Guns´n Roses, Eric Clapton and Red Hot Chili Peppers, among others.

OBELISCO

Built and inaugurated in 1936, it commemorates four historical facts related with the city: the Fourth Centennial of the Foundation of the city by Pedro de Mendoza, the first time that the National Flag was hoisted in Buenos Aires, the proclamation of the city as the Nation’sl Capital, and the Second foundation of the city by Juan de Garay.

PEATONAL FLORIDA

A pedestrian walkway since 1968 which streteches 10 blocks from Avenida de Mayo to Plaza San Martín.
Here you can find most of the shops that sell leather goods, autochthonous products, handcrafts and other souvenirs are of interest to foreign visitors.
Along this street, you can also visit "Galleries Pacifico" a distinguished shopping mall, with a great central dome covered with painted murals by prestigious artists like: Antonio Berni, Lino Spilimbergo, Juan Carlos Castagningo, Demetrio Urruchua y Manuel Colmeiro.

LA BOCA - CAMINITO

Its peculiar building characteristics and customs reflect the noticeable influence of European citizens, mainly Genoese Italians, who settled here during the big immigration wave to Argentina, between 1860 and 1910. La “Piccola Italia”, as it is also called, is impregnated with a Mediterranean style, from its gastronomy to its architecture.

Caminito is an open air street-museum that recreates the typical “conventillos” (housing projects) of the early La Boca neighbourhood.

The numerous artists, painters and tango dancers perform in the street. The name of the street was inspired by a famous tango song, called "Caminito", written in 1926 by Gabino Coria Peñaloza and Juan de Dios Filiberto.

SAN TELMO

Originally inhabited by the wealthiest families of Buenos Aires until 1871's Yellow Fever epidemic forced them to move North. As time passed by, San Telmo's appearance changed and it became a sightseeing must' in which century old architecture can be appreciated.

There is a great antique and handicrafts fair at the Plaza Dorrego, which gathers more than 10,000 visitors and has 270 sale stands. At the fair you may find "fonolas," used books, tango albums, out of stock collectible magazines, valuable antiques, époque clothes, cloths, and embroidery.
On Sundays, in the streets surrounding the square, you can see different artistic tango and folklore shows in addition to plastic artists exhibitions. You can also experience a tango class in the center of the square.

RECOLETA

Recoleta is a reknown entertainment district with gourmet dinning, open air concerts and multiple cultural events.
One of the most famous cementeries in the world is located in this neighbourhood. There are famous sculptures, crypts and graves some of which are considered Historic Monuments. Important mausoleums, such as Eva Duarte's, worldwide known as Evita, Federico Leloir's (medicine Nobel Prize), Adolfo Bioy Casares, among others.

TEATRO COLON

It was inaugurated in 1908 as one of the main lyrical theatres of the world.
The building possesses strong influences of the Italian Rebirth. Its interior dome was painted in 1966 by Raúl Soldi, an Argentinean plastic artist of world recognition.
The theatre has a stable cast, a corps de ballet, orchestras, set design and costumes workshops, a library and a museum. Its School of Ballet trained famous dancers such as Julio Bocca, Maximiliano Guerra and Paloma Herrera.

MUSEO NACIONAL DE BELLAS ARTES

The MNBA collection is the largest in the country and one of the most remarkable in Latin America. The most important international pieces in the museum include works by El Greco, Rodin, Goya, Renoir, Degas, Cézanne, and Picasso, among others. Argentine artists include Cándido López, Spilimbergo, Pueyrredón, Fader, Quinquela Martín, Xul Solar, Berni, Alonso, de la Vega, Gorriarena, Seguí, among others.
